About Club Z! of the Western Reserve
Mark Bowles (pictured above center) is the Club Z! franchise owner serving the Ohio cities of the Western Reserve. Dr. Bowles earned his Ph.D. in history from Case Western Reserve University in 1999 and has been a Professor of History at American Public University System since 2008.
He is the author of 15 books, many focusing on the history of education at the primary, secondary, and college level. These include the history of Hathaway Brown School, the Polymer College at The University of Akron, and three college-level textbooks covering American History, Digital Literacy, and Science and Culture.
His most recent book, Just Keep Rowing, recounts the harrowing journey of Katie Spotz, who in 2010 became the youngest person to row solo and unassisted across the Atlantic Ocean. Mark and Katie donated proceeds of the book to fund clean water projects for K-12 schools in Africa and the Dominican Republic.
He has been married to his wife, Nancy since 1990. They are raising their three daughters—Isabelle (b. 2000), and twins Emma and Sarah (b. 2009)—on the edge of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park in northeast Ohio.
