When beginning in 1998, the thought was that all tutors should be North Carolina or South Carolina certified teachers. However, it was soon discovered that there were very qualified teachers moving to this area from other states, teachers in privates schools some of which did not require state certification, college instructors, and others who made it known that they had the academic knowledge and the ability to relate well with students. In addition to academic knowledge and communication skills, other traits sought are tutors who  realize the importance of study skills, study habits, self-discipline, and self-esteem in the success of students. It is extremely important that each student is matched with the right tutor. Parents, students, and tutors are encouraged to let it be known if a change should ever be needed.
