20th ClubZ Anniversary Special: 20 Year Perspective on Tutoring
As you may have seen from
one of our recent blog posts, Club Z! is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year and we couldn't be more excited! In honor of the 20th anniversary celebration, we're dedicating one monthly blog post through the end of the year to a 20 year perspective on various topics. This month's focus: tutoring, naturally.
When Club Z! opened its doors in 1995, the education landscape was very different than it is now. Common Core State Standards weren't a part of anyone's vocabulary. Instead, education policy was predominantly focused on improving high school graduation rates, and increasing student performance in math and science. Tutoring was just starting to shed its stigma of being a resource only for struggling students, or worse yet, a reflection of failing parents (which of course it has never been). Higher education costs were starting to rise, and competition for college was growing. So more and more families were seeking outside resources to help their students get an academic edge.
Twenty years later, tutoring is seen as a resource for all students - those who struggle; those who want to get ahead; those who want to learn a new subject; those who want to gain an advantage for college admission or career; and everyone in between. According to a recent
Education Industry analysis, in 2006 there were 55.1 million students attending school in grades K-12, and that number is expected to surpass 74 million by the end of 2015. This growing student population means larger class sizes, less individualized attention in the classroom, and college admission figures that continue to get squeezed. Add to this the implementation of Common Core State Standards in nearly every US state by the end of 2015, and it's clear to see how 2015 offers a very different, far more competitive education landscape.
Fortunately, just as Club Z! was there to support families 20 years ago, we're still going strong in 2015 with programs ranging from traditional pre-K through 12th grade academic support, proprietary study skills and test prep programs for SAT and ACT, proven reading and writing courses for middle and high school students, pre-K readiness programs, and so much more! And we continue to focus on the future by expanding our online tutoring services, and test prep programs that reflect upcoming
changes in the SAT and ACT, to name a few.
Things may have changed in the tutoring industry, but Club Z! is still a name you can trust to help you navigate your way to success in the classroom and beyond. We look forward to helping students succeed for many years to come!
