    Normal Section

    Definition

Let M subset R^3 be a regular surface and u_p a unit tangent vector to M, and let Π(u_p, N(p)) be the plane determined by u_p and the normal to the surface N(p). Then the normal section of M is defined as the intersection of Π(u_p, N(p)) and M.
