    Set of Whole Numbers Z

    Basic definition

    An integer is one of the numbers ..., -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, ....

    Detailed definition

One of the numbers ..., -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, .... The set of integers forms a ring that is denoted Z. A given integer n may be negative (n element Z^-), nonnegative (n element Z^*), zero (n = 0), or positive (n element Z^+ = N). The set of integers is, not surprisingly, called Integers in the Wolfram Language, and a number x can be tested to see if it is a member of the integers using the command Element[x, Integers]. The command IntegerQ[x] returns True if x has function head Integer in the Wolfram Language.
